ABOUT US
Hal, Sinop Meeting Center
The Hal Building was built in 1950 by Muharrem Tansel and donated to Sinop Municipality on the condition that no other building would be built in its place, the shops would be used by small trades people in need, no profit would be made and the income from the shops would be used for the needs of the Hal Building.
In 2016, with the support of the Sinop Sustainable Development Association, founded by Sinopale volunteers, and Sinopale, Hal building gained a new identity as the Hal, Sinop Meeting Center. It has become an important culture and art venue where Sinop residents can organize culture and art events and host various culture and art projects, especially Sinopale. The venue, where Sinopale has been running its activities since 2016, is also home to the city's NGOs.
Hal Kolektif
Hal Collective is an independent culture and art initiative established with the motivation of creating a space where production-oriented and producing people come together in Sinop, especially Hal, Sinop Meeting Center. The Collective organizes participatory events that bring together the local and the international under the same roof and supports culture and arts events organized in the city, especially Sinopale International Sinop Biennial.
The members of the collective, who returned to Sinop with the reverse migration caused by the pandemic, organize sustainable events spread over 12 months of the year in a small city far from the center. The collective also aims to examine city-people relations and to put forward a methodology in which every person returning to their small cities can strengthen their connections with their cities through co-production.
It adopts the principles of sustainability, open communication, protecting urban values and ecological awareness in all the processes it puts forward in cooperation with local governments and NGOs and by actively using public space.
